Two people were wounded Thursday in a school shooting in the city of Taft, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting happened at Taft Union High School on the second floor of the school’s science building around 9 a.m. in Bakersfield.
Teacher Ryan Heber and a security guard allegedly talked a 16-year-old student into relinquishing the firearm that he used to shoot a student at Taft Union High School Thursday. Suraya Fadel reports. Read more…

The California Department of Fish and Game is recommending that great white sharks be listed as threatened or endangered species under the state’s Endangered Species Act. The Fish and Game Commission meets in February in Sacramento. If the petition is accepted, it would take a year for the protections to be enforced. Some critics said humans need more protection from the white sharks. Suraya Fadel Reporting

A 24-year-old Pomona man’s alleged violent Facebook threats against Los Angeles elementary school students in December have been made public. The online postings by Kyle Bangayan, which were made on the same day as the Newtown, Conn., massacre, were revealed in a Los Angeles Police Department search warrant.
The District Attorney’s Office, said there was insufficient evidence to file a case and charges against Bangayan were dropped. Suraya Fadel Reporting Read more…

A vandal shot out windows at several Alhambra businesses on Friday evening. Police responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 8 p.m. Earlier reports said that at least one person was injured by falling glass, but police later said no one was hurt. Officials believe the culprit may have used a BB gun.
