Police across Southern California are beefing up patrols following Wednesday night’s crime spree in Hollywood. Approximately 40 people had gathered in the area near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue around 9 p.m., knocking people down and taking their cell phones. Merchandise and cash registers were stolen from local businesses and windows broken throughout the neighborhood.

Friends and family held a candlelight vigil Monday for the woman stabbed to death while taking a picture at a popular Hollywood tourist attraction. Efforts are reportedly underway to increase security along Hollywood Blvd. after 23-year-old Christine Calderon of Lynwood was attacked by three transients outside the Hollywood & Highland entertainment complex Tuesday evening. Costumed superhero characters were involved in a brawl Wednesday afternoon on the streets of Hollywood. Witnesses said two Captain Americas and a Spiderman threw punches at each other in front of the Madame Tussauds kiosk, feet away from the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Police believe an armed robber they’ve dubbed the “Western bandit” has struck again in the Hollywood area. Investigators say evidence now links the suspect to a series of muggings along the Western Avenue corridor, including one in which a witness was shot. Suraya Fadel reporting from Hollywood

A 24-year-old Pomona man’s alleged violent Facebook threats against Los Angeles elementary school students in December have been made public. The online postings by Kyle Bangayan, which were made on the same day as the Newtown, Conn., massacre, were revealed in a Los Angeles Police Department search warrant.

Police are asking for the public’s help to track down an armed and dangerous man who may be linked to a murder and a string of robberies in Los Angeles. The suspect, dubbed the “Western Bandit”, is accused of nine armed robberies within the last year at businesses on Western Avenue from Los Feliz to South Los Angeles.

Popular radio shock jock partners with an ex-TV cop to catch an alleged Hollywood Hills thief. Radio and online show host, Tom Leykis, and the head of the Neighborhood Watch Group, which happens to be actor Kent McCord AKA Officer Jim Reed from the popular 1968-1975 police drama, “Adam-12.”, took pictures and helped identify criminals stealing mail from one of the neighbors.
